Webinar teaches safer method of proning ventilated patients
To address a sharp rise in health care-associated pressure injuries (HAPIs) and caregiver injuries associated with proning patients at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, SCL Health, based in Broomfield, Colo., took action. During a Dec. 15 webinar at 1 p.m. ET, a representative of SCL Health will describe how the organization engaged a systemwide interdisciplinary team including critical care nurses and respiratory therapists treating COVID-19 patients. The team created a three-tiered proning method that resulted in a 70% decrease in HAPIs, a 50% decrease in staff injuries, and a 66% decrease in the time needed to prone. Participants should register for the webinar, hosted by the American Hospital Association, in advance.
