Virtual nursing used in care coordination

Mount Sinai Health System wants to expand its virtual nursing program platform to include other hospital departments to streamline care coordination. The New York City-based system foresees someone from the MRI department using the virtual platform to help patients complete questionnaires in lieu of a bedside nurse, or pharmacists using the platform to review medication information with patients, according to Clair Lunt, senior director of nursing informatics. Virtual nurses could use the platform to work with rehab patients at home to complete physical assessments, freeing up the clinician to work with the patient. The system currently uses virtual nursing for admission and discharge documentation. (HealthLeaders Media article, 5/24/24)
