UCHealth nurses describe pandemic staffing model
During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, UCHealth in Aurora, Colo., admitted over one-third of the state's patients who tested positive for the disease. To avoid crisis operations and the potential for significantly degraded care quality, nurse leaders developed an operational framework to effectively use all system RNs and prepare non-direct care RNs with updated skills for direct patient care. In the April issue of Nursing Management, UCHealth leaders describe their model in detail and offer leadership lessons learned.
