Study highlights strategies to improve patient experience scores
Strategies to improve patient experience scores include adding care coordinators for chronic conditions, incorporating peer shadow coaching and improving team communication, according to an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality-funded study. Published in the Journal of Patient Experience, researchers reviewed 52 studies examining the use of AHRQ’s Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Clinician and Group scores to assess interventions intended to improve patient experience scores. The study found patient portals, care for complex patients and electronic health records did not affect the ratings, while medication adherence showed mixed results. Researchers noted health care leaders could focus on implementing effective care coordination and prioritizing empathy and teamwork to improve patient-centered care. (AHRQ News Now article, 2/25/25)
