Study explores how to best recognize nurse managers
Relationships and validating the nurse manager role, including instituting supportive structures and processes, will influence the impact of nurse manager recognition, a study found. Published in the July/August issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration, the qualitative descriptive study with 30 nurse leaders is the first to provide a theoretical foundation for culture and climate for meaningful recognition in health care organizations. Nurse managers “need to have a voice to act and be aligned with senior leadership,” the study found. The authors provide CNOs with eight recommendations to enhance role validation for nurse managers. The AONL Foundation for Nursing Leadership Research and Education conducted the study as part of a campaign run with the DAISY Foundation to counteract compassion fatigue and burnout among nurse managers.
