Study: Trust-building skills are linked to organizational commitment

Providing nurse managers with leadership development skills in building trust with their nursing team could contribute to nurse retention and organizational commitment, a study concludes. Published in the November issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration, the cross-sectional study was the first to explore trust and organizational commitment post-pandemic. Baylor Scott & White Health in central Texas surveyed 135 nurses over six weeks in 2023. Participants reported high levels of trust in their leaders and organizational commitment after the pandemic’s end. The authors hypothesize the high levels of trust were due to evidence-based interventions established in 2021, including regular check-ins focused on well-being, shared governance, improved communications and pay increases.
