Study: Tailored debriefing process better supports nurses
Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago instituted a debriefing process, resulting in increased compassion and satisfaction levels among the pediatric intensive care unit staff, a study found. Published in the June issue of Critical Care Nurse, the study found the Rapid Review of Resuscitation debriefing process ─ allowing time for reflection and communication following critical patient events ─ significantly improved staff compassion fatigue scores. Burnout and secondary traumatic stress were the same as before implementation. The hospital has implemented the process on other inpatient care units, with overwhelmingly positive feedback.
