Study: Novel disinfectant technology can reduce HAIs
Advanced photodrolysis technology reduced the pathogens that can lead to health care-acquired infections, according to a study. Published in the American Journal of Infection Control, the study explored using the technology to provide constant surface and air decontamination in two ICU units. The researchers took samples before the technology was activated and again every four weeks after the technology was activated. The comparison showed a greater than 96% reduction in mean fungi and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus colony forming units on surfaces and floors. Air results showed reductions of 72% for mean aerobic bacterial colony forming units and 89% for mean fungal colony forming units. They observed a greater than 70% decline in HAIs after activating the technology. (American Journal of Infection Control article, 4/11/24)
