Study: NPs do not seek mental health care
Fewer than 20% of nurse practitioners seek help from a mental health professional, even though 60% experience burnout and nearly 40% are depressed, according to a recent Medscape report. Among the reasons NPs do not seek care are their reliance on self-help, a desire to push through their troubles, stigma and a fear that they could face repercussions in their careers. Wellness apps, confiding in a workplace friend, seeking out a mentor and telehealth therapy are strategies NPs can use. (Medscape article, 1/24/23)
