Study: Interprofessional efforts reduce bloodstream infections
A participant in the AONL Nurse Manager Fellowship published a study in the April issue of Nurse Leader showing how an interprofessional team effectively decreased central line-associated bloodstream infections in a cardiac care unit at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. As part of her capstone project, Allison Klamka, MS, RN, a patient care operations manager, convened representatives from nursing, medicine and infection prevention and control to implement a reduction campaign. Interventions included weekly central line rounds, collaboration with institutional infection prevention control to identify hygiene opportunities, and enhancing central-line-maintenance bundle observations. The AONL Nurse Manager Fellowship is a yearlong program designed to target the unique leadership development needs of nurse managers.
