Stamps calls for nursing leaders to commit to DEIB
AONL member Deborah Stamps, EdD, RN, stresses the need for nursing leaders to remain committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Stamps writes in the April issue of Nurse Leader that nursing leaders must build awareness of the importance of DEIB in their workplaces to ensure the workforce reflects the communities they serve. Health care organization leaders should have measurable, achievable DEIB goals; diversify the candidate pipeline; and ensure DEIB initiatives exist in all processes. A robust DEIB program should have ongoing unconscious bias training, provide coaching and sponsorship for underrepresented groups and build inclusive organizational leadership. Low nurse turnover underscores successful workplace environments valuing all voices, she says.
