Simulation Improves Nurse Performance During Emergencies
High-fidelity simulation can prepare new nurses to identify when a patient experiences deterioration and give them the knowledge and confidence to act, according to an article in the October issue of Nurse Leader. Megan Seston Matson, DNP, RN, an assistant nursing director at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and AONL’s 2023 Pamela Austin Thompson Early Careerist Award Winner, authored the article. Twenty nurse residents participated in an 80-minute session comprising four separate stations focused on how to manage patient deterioration and emergency situations. The residents reported a statistically significance increase in comfort after participating in the intervention and another increase in the 8-week follow-up survey.
