Senators reintroduce Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act
Sens. Dick Durb, D-Ill., and Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., this week reintroduced the AONL-supported Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act. The bill would permit for the recapture of previously authorized but unused green cards for up to 25,000 nurses and 15,000 doctors to address acute U.S. workforce shortages. The legislation would provide for a three-year window for the recapture to occur and would require eligible professionals to satisfy licensure requirements and background checks. The hospital also would need to attest the immigrant is not displacing an American worker. (Sen. Durbin news release, 11/2/23)
