Self-assessment tool evaluates nurse SDOH competencies
Researchers developed a self-assessment questionnaire to evaluate nursing professionals’ self-perceptions of competencies in addressing the social determinants of health. Nearly 700 nurses completed the questionnaire, and results were published in Nursing Outlook. Nurses reported the greatest competencies in health literacy, access to primary care and nutritious foods, while the lowest competencies were in addressing immigration status, climate change and civic participation. The researchers call for targeted education to improve knowledge in addressing the areas where nurses felt least competent. (Nursing Outlook article, 2/18/25)
