Schiff introduces nursing faculty bill
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., introduced the Support Faculty and Expand Access to Nursing School Act (H.R. 3263), along with Reps. Nannette Barragán, D-Calif., and Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Del. The bill, supported by AONL, would provide grant funding through the Department of Health and Human Services to nursing schools to expand their capacity to train nurses by hiring more faculty and clinical preceptors. The legislation would prioritize funding for nursing schools in cities and states experiencing the most severe faculty and preceptor shortages. HHS would collect information from grantees on the impact of the grant program, including data related to the recruitment and retention of faculty and preceptors and student enrollment rates. (Rep.
