Robotic technology becoming part of nursing care, article says

Robotic technology is on the verge of becoming a standard part of care processes, according to an article in the December Nurse Leader. Authored by AONL member Todd Griner, DNP, RN, the executive director of critical care services at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, the article encourages leaders to become early adopters to “influence the evolution of robots, digital transformation, and ethical, effective processes.”  He notes robots have strong potential for providing patients with enhanced surveillance, offering an initial assessment to the nursing staff, diagnosing patients, and delivering supplies, medication and equipment. However, robots will not be able to replace nurses because they cannot manipulate the physical environment, adapt to constant change or provide human caring.
