Roadmap describes how nurse scientists can reduce health inequities
Buttressing the nursing scientific workforce in solutions-oriented research will permit nursing science to improve efforts to eliminate health inequities, a Nursing Outlook article maintains. The authors contend nurse scientists bring a holistic perspective and direct care experience to their research and have long been leaders in solutions-oriented health equity research, with the National Institute of Nursing Research leading the percentage of funding allocated in the space. However, the nursing PhD workforce is shrinking, and nursing schools receive fewer research dollars compared with other health professions schools. The authors call for mentorship programs, research facilities and funding mechanisms to attract and retain nurse scientists.
