Resource will help transition to competency-based education

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing releasedwhite paper for nursing educators providing guidance on competency-based education and learning assessment. The document explores the practice experiences in entry-level post-licensure nursing programs, replacing a resource on the topic issued in 2012. The white paper reflects changes in health care and aligns with the expectations for entry-level post-licensure programs outlined in the latest Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education. The AACN expanded the focus beyond baccalaureate degree programs to include RN to BSN, RN to MSN, and RN to DNP programs. The resource emphasizes the need for direct and indirect care experiences and features ten examples of practice experiences with the relevant Essentials domains, competencies, sub-competencies and concepts for each learning experience identified to assist with curriculum design.
