Researchers call for changes in how nurses manage patients' pain

To get a better handle on the challenges nurses face while managing patients’ pain, researchers conducted a series of interviews and reported their findings in the November Nursing Outlook. The researchers stressed the need for continuous education on pain management techniques and making the goal pain minimization rather than elimination. “The more informed patients and health care professionals are on pain management, especially in light of the opioid epidemic, the better chance we have at curbing this epidemic and finding appropriate pain management techniques,” the researchers wrote.
