Report: NSIs show nursing’s value
A report co-edited by AONL member Rachel Start, PhD, RN, uses nurse-sensitive indicators to measure the value of ambulatory care nurses in terms of improving patient outcomes. The second edition of the ambulatory care NSI report, released by the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing, calls for nursing to be valued economically, professionally and structurally. Start, interim associate CNO, Rush University System for Health, Chicago, said the report’s impact extends beyond ambulatory care, reflecting “measures that encompass a broader view of increasing patient outcomes that are positive.” The report provides evidence for nursing leaders to advocate for telehealth services, improve staffing models and advocate for more resources, and encourage professional governance at all nursing levels.
