Rep. Kiggans introduces Dr. Lorna Breen Act, preceptor bill

Rep. Jen Kiggans, R-Va., re-introduced the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act. The AONL-supported bill (H.R. 929) would prevent burnout among health care providers and improve workforce retention by re-authorizing funding for mental health and well-being programs in the health care industry from 2025-2030. Other sponsors were Reps. Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., Marianette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, and Jennifer McClellan, D-Va. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., introduced companion legislation (S. 266). In January, Reps. Kiggans, Dave Joyce, R-Ohio, Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., and Jim Costa, D-Calif., introduced the Precept Nurses Act, H.R. 392, a bipartisan, bicameral bill to establish a $2,000 tax credit for nurses who serve as clinical preceptors to nursing students. Sens. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., introduced companion legislation (S. 131). (Rep. Kiggans news release, 2/5/25)
