Project to use AI to merge health data entered by clinicians
An interdisciplinary project will use artificial intelligence to unify data from nurses and other health professionals to create novel, holistic datasets to drive discoveries to improve patient outcomes and care. Researchers at the University of Iowa, University of Missouri and Loyola University, along with Microsoft and Tackle AI, will combine structured data and free-text notes in the electronic health records involving patients who have experienced injuries related to falls and infants transitioning from the neonatal intensive care unit to the home. These notes discuss a patient’s progress as they transition from the hospital to other care settings. Most AI-driven technologies built on patient data use only information provided by physicians. The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health awarded up to $10 million for the project. (Newswise news release, 9/30/24)
