Podcast discusses how hospital helps moms break opioid addiction

In an American Hospital Association podcast, three experts at the award-winning Women and Infant Substance Help Center at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., discuss how the center is helping mothers get off and stay off opioids and other substances. The center opened in 2016 and leverages community resources. Donna Spears, the center’s founder and regional director of SSM Health Women’s Health, said she started the center because of a lack of services to support women who were using opioids while pregnant. The center strives to treat the women before they deliver and provides care for up to two years after delivery.
