Pilot study evaluates tool to mitigate workplace violence
Further research will help to determine if a violence assessment tool to mitigate workplace violence positively affects nurse empowerment and satisfaction and reduces turnover and burnout, a pilot study concluded. Published in the June issue of Nurse Leader, the study explored the feasibility of implementing a violence assessment tool on two inpatient units at Wellstar Health System in Atlanta. The study also explored whether the tool built a sense of empowerment and support among nurses. The units successfully implemented the tool and adopted it into the unit workflow. However, nurses on the floors with the tool did not significantly differ from nurses on the floors without the tool regarding exposure to violence, empowerment at work, intent to stay or professional quality of life.
