Paper gauges pandemic’s impact on the nursing workforce
In a recent paper in Nursing Economic$, two academic nurses and one practice leader assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing practice and the work environment, and ask how the experiences of nurses battling COVID-19 might encourage or dissuade potential nurses from entering the profession. Among their recommendations for improving working conditions, they urge involving RNs in strategic planning related to testing, communications and logistical issues; developing ways to assure nurses’ physical, mental and emotional health; and revamping how nurses recover from stress.
