Nursing groups criticize Bloomberg article on NPs
More than 75 nursing and health organizations condemned a recent Bloomberg article, “The Miseducation of America’s Nurse Practitioners.” In a recent statement, the groups say the authors cherry-picked negative information about NPs and failed to report the significant contributions NPs make to patient care. The organizations cite more than 50 studies showing NPs in the U.S. provide high-quality care in diverse settings. In addition, they note leading health care experts and health policy leaders, including the National Academy of Medicine, the American Enterprise Institute and the Brookings Institute, have evaluated the evidence on NP care and called for the removal of barriers preventing NPs from practicing to the full extent of their education and training. AONL supports the statement. (AANP news release, 8/1/24)
