Nurses will accelerate the transformation of health care
The COVID-19 pandemic “has unlocked new momentum in the delivery of care to patients, with notable advancements powered by nurses,” wrote Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, AONL CEO and chief nursing officer and senior vice president of workforce of the American Hospital Association, and her co-authors, nurse leaders at the American Nurses Association and Johnson & Johnson Nursing. In an op-ed in STAT News, the three cited examples of nurse-led innovations that reshaped care during the pandemic. “The decade ahead will be defined by the U.S.’s ability to address issues like ongoing disparities in health care, access to care within communities, and uneven adoption of health technologies such as telehealth, electronic health records, patient portals, and the like with the same urgency, resourcefulness and innovation we’ve applied during the COVID-19 crisis. Nurses are at the center of these efforts,” they concluded. (STAT News article, 8/20/21)
