Nurses remain most trusted profession

Respondents to an annual Gallup poll named nurses the most trusted profession for the 22nd year in a row, with 78% of U.S. adults saying nurses have high honesty and ethical standards. Nurses were followed by veterinarians, engineers, dentists and medical doctors. Gallup polled roughly 800 U.S. adults during December 2023 and asked them to rate each of the 23 professions. The ratings of nearly all 23 professions are lower than they have been in recent years, with nursing falling seven-percentage points from 2019 and 11 points from its peak in 2020 during the pandemic.
