Nurse leaders need capacity to implement EBP

Health care organizations should invest in building the capacity of nurse leaders to implement evidence-based practice, according to a study in the January Journal of Nursing Administration. Capacity building for nurse leaders could include opportunities to pursue advanced degrees and offering continuing education to aid clinical nurses in using EBP. Nurse leaders also should take part in decision-making to support EBP initiatives linking quality care to the contributions of individual units. In addition, health care organizations should devote financial and human resources to improve nurse leaders’ capabilities in supporting EBP. The qualitative study used focus groups comprised of 12 participants during the 2022 Association of California Nurse Leaders Annual Program.
