NQF to develop guide to better prevent bloodstream infections
The National Quality Forum will develop a guide for acute care hospitals to better prevent, identify and treat hospital-onset bacterial or fungal bloodstream infections. Clinicians and hospital staff will be able to use the guide as a step-by-step playbook to reduce avoidable infections, and offer best practices on isolation and treatment when infection occurs. To develop the guide, NQF will conduct an environmental scan of the research, conduct interviews, identify gaps in the field and host a virtual forum of experts and patients beginning in late 2023. The guide will be peer-reviewed before NQF finalizes and disseminates it in 2024. (NQF news release, 9/14/23)
