NCC thanks Black maternal health bill sponsors
The Nursing Community Coalition this week thanked Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., and Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., for introducing the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2023 (H.R. 3305/S. 1606). The comprehensive effort to address the maternal health crisis includes provisions to grow and diversify the workforce, invest in social determinants of health, support moms’ mental health and improve data collection and quality measures. AONL was one of 51 national nursing organizations to sign the letter. Separately, the American Hospital Association joined 85 national organizations in urging Congress to pass the Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act (H.R. 3838/S. 2415). The bipartisan legislation would reauthorize federal support for state-based maternal mortality review committees. (NCC letter, 8/1/23)
