Mobile app improves nurse satisfaction, retention

Los Angeles General Medical Center’s use of a mobile application facilitating real-time feedback from front-line nurses to the CNO improved nurse satisfaction and retention, a study found. Published in the October issue of Nurse Leader, the study involved 321 nurses over a six-month period, focusing on communication, enhancement, empowerment and turnover rates. Front-line nurses used an application to provide immediate and ongoing feedback to CNO Nancy Blake, PhD, RN, who responded the same day. Blake, an AONL member, emailed monthly updates on plans to resolve issue or to praise successes. Turnover rates declined from 22% the previous year to 13% during the study, and 90% of participants felt the application helped or may have helped improve communication with their leaders.
