Millennial nurse leader shares lessons learned on the job
A “Doogie Howser moment” is how one millennial nurse manager described her first day as manager of a hospital unit in a recent Medscape blog post. She quickly discovered, “Each unit is unique,” and put aside her preconceived notions of how she would implement change. Though she remained diligent about setting high standards and expectations, she realized she had to meet her staff where they were. She relearned therapeutic communication when she saw her "shoot from the hip" style did not sit well with some of them.
