Meaningful recognition for nurses differs widely, study says
Meaningful recognition for nurses varies widely, according to a Journal of Nursing Administration study. More than 160 Sigma Theta Tau members in Maryland responding to an online survey ranked meaningful recognition strategies. They ranked pay, public recognition and opportunities for advancement as the ones that meant the most to them, but trends differed across ethnic/racial and gender groups, age, work settings and role. The authors suggest nurse leaders hold ongoing individual conversations with nursing staff to “gain insights into what each nurse perceives as important recognition and use those insights.” The authors also recommend a larger study on meaningful recognition be conducted in a more diverse population.
