Massachusetts hospitals take steps to reduce workplace violence

The Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association, Burlington, has combatted workplace violence by creating the Healthcare Safety & Violence Prevention Workgroup. This work is detailed in January’s Voice of Nursing Leadership article. Begun in 2017, the group meets every two months and includes nursing representatives from member hospitals. The workgroup takes key actions in collaboration and education, data collection, leadership and guidance and public policy. It also developed code of conduct principles for facilities to adopt, called on the public to respect health care workers and advocates for workplace violence prevention legislation in Massachusetts.
