Leadership academy supports promotion, retention
A nursing leadership development program at Yale New Haven Health (Conn.) System (YNHHS) is contributing to the retention of nurse leaders and their promotion into the health system’s senior ranks. In the eight years since the inaugural 2013 YNHHS Nursing Leadership Academy, 76% (n=23) of participants were retained, while 72% advanced to a higher position or had role expansion within the organization. The program is described in detail in the November issue of the Voice of Nursing Leadership. The authors believe similar programs are needed to support nurse leader succession planning, which is essential for the vitality of health care organizations.
