Latest guidance on maternal health covers COVID-19 risks, vaccination
Pregnant women and their health care providers had little information to guide them as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded last year, but evidence and recommendations have since emerged. An article in the June issue of the American Journal of Nursing lays out the latest guidance on pregnancy-related risks associated with COVID-19, breastfeeding while COVID positive, and vaccination while pregnant. Among the good news conveyed in the article, it appears COVID-positive women transfer antibodies, not the disease, to their newborns. Breastfeeding while ill and vaccination while pregnant are also deemed safe for mothers and infants.
