Nurse leaders convene national LGBTQ health summit
Nurse leaders hosted the first National Nursing LGBTQ Health Summit at Columbia University School of Nursing in New York City. The gathering, held in November, was intended as a first step toward creating an action plan to raise awareness and improve the health of LGBTQ individuals. Summit attendees plan to create an action plan and disseminate it widely. They also plan to issue one or more papers that address LGBTQ health in education, research and practice, with implications for policy, and host a forum where participants can network and plan future collaborations. “The LGBTQ population is disproportionately represented in adverse health outcomes,” said Ann Kurth, PhD, RN, dean, Yale School of Nursing, one of the summit organizers. “Nursing can, and must, change this trajectory.” (Newswise news release, 12/19/19)
