Kingston weighs in on nursing challenges, opportunities
The latest American Hospital Association Chair File podcast features Mary Beth Kingston, PhD, RN, executive vice president and CNO at Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health. Kingston, a past president of AONL and current AHA board member, discusses nursing leadership trends and strategies to address ongoing workforce challenges. She emphasizes hospital leadership should engage front-line nurses on their ideas for improving care and discuss with them potential solutions to better support teams. While virtual nursing has “tremendous promise,” she believes it won’t close the nursing shortage gap. Kingston says building strong teams and supporting leaders, departments and units are crucial to ensuring workforce well-being. Leaders also must address workplace violence, she says.
