Joint Commission revises workplace violence requirements, effective July 1

The Joint Commission revised its workplace violence requirements for all Joint Commission-accredited assisted living communities, nursing care centers and office-based surgery practices. The requirements, which become effective July 1, align with similar updates for behavioral health care and human services organizations, critical access hospitals, home care organizations and hospitals. The Joint Commission intends for the requirements to address safety concerns affecting patients, staff and visitors and offer a framework to guide organizations in developing effective workplace violence prevention strategies. The requirements include defining workplace violence, developing policies and procedures to prevent workplace violence and implementing post-incident strategies.
