Joint Commission resources seek to reduce maternal mortality
The Joint Commission this week published two resources to help reduce mortality and morbidity in pregnant and postpartum patients. The first resource aims to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities causing mortality and morbidity in pregnant and postpartum patients, and the second discusses how mental health conditions are a leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths. Last week, the Joint Commission announced it has developed a Health Care Equity Certification program that will be effective July 1. The certification program will recognize accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals that strive for excellence in their efforts to provide equitable care, treatment and services.
