House passes bill to decrease maternal mortality
The House this week passed the AONL-supported Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act (H.R. 3838). Sponsored by Reps. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., and Michael Burgess, R-Texas, the bipartisan bill would reauthorize through fiscal year 2028 federal support for state-based maternal mortality review committees, which review pregnancy-related deaths to identify causes and make recommendations to prevent future mortalities. In addition, the legislation would require the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to work with the Health Resources and Services Administration to spread best practices to hospitals and other health care providers.
