Health systems take meaningful steps to address burnout
Nine hospital system leaders detailed their initiatives to meaningfully combat clinician burnout. New York University Langone Health in New York City started a Lavender Response Team comprised of trained volunteers who serve as a psychological first aid unit for hospital employees. Hospital employees can call after a stressful care situation or patient death; a volunteer provides support on site within 30 minutes. The program aims to show the institution cares for its clinicians and will be physically present for them. Other systems offer recharge rooms, clinician wellness councils to spur meaningful connections, and well-being programs that provide physical and emotional support, including mindfulness and meditation.
