Health system’s pathway program improves retention
Holy Cross Health launched a health career pathways program in 2023 after an employee social needs screening revealed a desire for employees to progress in their careers and earn a higher wage. The Silver Spring, Md.-based health system’s pathway programs include tracks for certified medical assistants, certified nursing assistants and pharmacy technicians. Participants are required to be employees for at least two years and have a GED or high school diploma. Employees selected for the program enroll in certification courses tailored to their career goals. Eleven of the 16 employees in the first cohort in 2023 finished the certificate programs and accepted full-time positions with Holy Cross Health. (Campaign for Action article, 10/8/24)
