Health system’s internal travel program offers nurses flexibility, options

Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) implemented an internal travel agency program for nurses providing them with flexibility to practice within a small geographic area or throughout the health system’s 13 markets in Ohio, Virginia, South Carolina, Florida and Kentucky. Nurses who sign up to travel can take assignments across the Cincinnati-based health system for eight, 12 or 16 weeks. Nurses “talk to us about their career pathway progression and choices, where they’d like to have assignments, and what kinds of things they’re looking to experience within our ministry,” said AONL member Andrea Mazzoccoli, the health system’s chief nurse and quality officer. Seventy-five nurses have signed up for the internal traveling program, including some of BSMH’s external agency nurses. (HealthLeaders Media article, 7/25/22)
