Health system uses AI to improve nurse navigator workflows
OSF Healthcare uses an artificial intelligence platform to monitor and adjust the workflows of nurse navigators who care for cancer patients. The algorithm developed by the Peoria, Ill.-based health system probes through the electronic health record platform and other data sources to plan each cancer patient’s journey for the coming week. The platform assigns new patients to nurse navigators according to cancer specialty and a care navigator’s existing workload. The platform matches patients with the most appropriate navigator, as well as decreases the navigators’ stress and burnout by enabling them to manage their workloads better.
