HHS stockpiles HFNC kits for COVID-19 patients
Providing oxygen using high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) rather than mechanical ventilation is emerging as a safe and effective alternative for treating COVID-19 patients with severe disease. Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response is procuring 30,000 HFNC kits for the Strategic National Stockpile. Health care facilities in need of HFNC equipment should work through public health officials in their states, territories, tribal nations or large metropolitan areas to request federal assistance in procuring HFNC equipment. Technical assistance related to the kits is available on the HHS website.
