HHS issues advisory on long COVID
The Department of Health and Human Services this week released an advisory on long COVID. The HHS intends for the advisory, released through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, to raise awareness of the condition, especially among primary care practitioners and clinicians who often treat patients with long COVID. Long COVID can have detrimental effects on the mental health of those who experience it, as well as their families, due to several factors, including chronic illness, social isolation, financial insecurity, caregiver burnout and grief, the advisory said. The advisory provides evidence-based resources to treat the condition. (HHS news release, 6/21/23)
