Grant will expand number of rural NPs
A $2.6 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration will enable a rural Michigan nursing college to prepare nurses from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds interested in working in rural or underserved areas, primary care or mental health. The Kirkhof College of Nursing, part of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., will use the grant to continue collaborating with McLaren Health Care in Grand Blanc, Mich., and Trinity Health Muskegon, to recruit and educate 37 nurses in its Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The hospitals will recruit from the same communities where the nurses will serve, a more effective strategy than recruiting nurses from outside the communities. (HealthLeaders Media article, 8/10/23)
