Gallup names nursing most trusted profession again
For the 23rd consecutive year, Americans ranked nurses the most trusted profession, according to Gallup. Three in four Americans consider nurses highly honest and ethical, ahead of grade-school teachers, who ranked second, with 61% of respondents ranking them highly trusted. Military officers, pharmacists and medical doctors also earned high trust. The average very high/high ethics rating of the core 11 professions has fallen significantly, mirroring long-term declines in Americans’ confidence in U.S. institutions. Nurses, for example, fell from an average 82% rating in 2000-2009 to 76% in 2024. Gallup conducted the poll from Dec. 2-18, 2024. (Gallup news release, 1/13/25)
